Quick Tour of Santiago

Jaime writes:

I am going to be visiting Chile for a month this summer with a group study exchange team from the local Rotary club. … On our way home e will have a 9 1/2 hour lay over in Santiago. We are hoping to be able to leave the airport and see a few sites if possible rather than sit and wait for such a long time. What sites would you suggest for such a short stay?

I’m glad to hear you’ll be able to visit Chile.
With 9 hours you definitely have time to see some of downtown Santiago. You can take a shuttle from the airport to downtown:

I’d suggest you visit:
Santa Lucia, the hill upon which Spanish conquistador Pedro de Valdivia founded Santiago. See pictures of Santa Lucia on Flickr.
San Cristobol, the larger hill upon which sits a large virgin Mary statue and offers spectacular views of the city. See pictures of San Cristobol on Flickr.
La Moneda, the presidential palace. See pictures of La Moneda on Flickr.
You should be able to have the airport shuttle take you to one destination then grab a cab to the others.
Have fun!
